WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Minor League Baseball seasons officially got underway last week and nine Purdue baseball alumni have continued their careers at the professional level.
Jay Buente (2003-06) has returned to the Triple-A level with the New Orleans Zephyrs, the Florida Marlins' affiliate in the Pacific Coast League. Four other Boilermakers are at the Double-A level. Mitch Hilligoss is currently on an extended spring training assignment in Arizona, continuing to strengthen a shoulder that he injured last season.
Two scenarios exist where Purdue alums could bat against their former teammates. Brandon Haveman and Josh Lindblom are both starting their seasons in the Southern League. Haveman's Jackson Generals and Lindblom's Chattanooga Lookouts are scheduled to square off in five series, the first being set for April 28-May 2 in Chattanooga.
Meanwhile, Hilligoss could face Dan Sattler in the Texas League. Sattler is now pitching in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim system, beginning the year in Little Rock with the Arkansas Travelers. Hilligoss's Frisco Roughriders are set to play two series against Arkansas over the next week, making a potential Hilligoss-Sattler matchup more likely in July (3-5 in Frisco or 10-12 in Little Rock).
