WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- An unfavorable weather forecast for the weekend has led to a rearranged schedule for the Purdue-Ohio State baseball series at Alexander Field, which will now feature a single game at 5 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m.
Friday's series opener was moved up to 5 p.m. from its originally announced 7 p.m. start to maximize the number of innings played in the sunlight. With the forecast for Sunday calling for temps in the mid-30s and a wintery mix of rain and snow, a decision was reached to play a pair of nine-innings games on Saturday. The forecast for Saturday calls for clear skies and temps in the mid-40s.
Fans that have tickets for the March 23 or 24 scheduled games can use those tickets to attend both games of Saturday's doubleheader.
After Tuesday's home opener was canceled due to a 10-degree wind chill coupled with frigid temperatures, Friday's game is now slated to be the inaugural contest in the history of Alexander Field. The new home of the Boilermakers was completed in August 2012.
The live coverage of the weekend series will remain the same. Live radio/Internet audio & PPV video webcasts through Boilermaker All-Access will still be in the mix for fans that can't make it to the ballpark this weekend.
Both teams are opening their Big Ten schedules this weekend. Ohio State is making its first visit to West Lafayette since 2009.
