TAMPA, Fla. - Purdue junior Matt Morgan has been named the co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the league has announced.
The right-hander from Fishers, Ind., tossed seven shutout innings in his season debut against Cincinnati on Saturday. Morgan struck out nine Bearcat hitters, one shy of his career high, while limiting UC to four hits and two walks. Despite his best efforts, Morgan did not earn a decision in the contest.
The league honors are the first for a Boilermaker player this season, and Morgan is the first conference honoree since Matt Jansen was feted on March 16, 2009.
The Boilermakers will head to Carbondale, Ill., this weekend to take on Southern Illinois. First pitch for the opener of the three-game series on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
