CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Steady rain showers throughout the afternoon Friday led to unfavorable field conditions at Jack Russell Stadium and forced the postponement of Purdue baseball's season opener against Cincinnati. The Boilermakers and Bearcats will now play Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m.

The game was originally set for a 1 p.m. first pitch Friday at Jack Russell Stadium. Rain showers began about noon, pushing back the start of the game twice, first to 4 p.m. and then to 7:15. The game was officially postponed about 5:30 p.m.

The Boilermakers will now open their season against Connecticut for the second year in a row. The Huskies are playing Indiana at Al Lang Stadium in Downtown St. Peterburg Friday. Click here for UConn-IU game updates.

Purdue won last year's game with UConn at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Fla. Joe Haase is expected to start against UConn and Lance Breedlove against Cincinnati.

The 10 a.m. Minnesota-Louisville game at Jack Russell Stadium was unable to complete the bottom of the ninth inning before heavier rain forced a rain delay. Louisville loaded the bases with Minnesota leading, 7-3.

The Penn State-Seton Hall game set for 4 p.m. at Jack Russell Stadium was moved to a 7:30 p.m. first pitch Al Lang Stadium.
