Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
When captain Ryne White drafted his Gold team one week earlier, he likely could not imagine the offensive explosiveness the squad would show in the first two games of the annual Purdue Black & Gold Series.
18 innings into the series, the Gold has won two contests behind an offense that has blasted 32 hits and is hitting at a .416 clip.
The Gold squad won Game One 7-5 and took Game Two 10-5.
In Game One, Jonathan Lilly and Nick Overmyer paced the Gold attack with three hits each, while Lilly, Jon Moore and Ryan Bridges each picked up two RBI in the two-run win.
Kyle Cook picked up the win, pitching 5.0 innings without allowing an earned run. Cook yielded three hits and struck out three batters. Chris Ivanic pitched the final four innings for the save.
In the second game of the series the Gold again had a three-hit effort from Overmyer, who leads all players with a .600 batting average. Moore also picked up three hits and five other members of the Gold lineup had two-hit afternoons. White led the Gold with three RBI including a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Allan Donato was credited with the win after pitching four innings, allowing one run on three hits. Matt Bischoff provided quality relief, going four innings on the hill and yielding just two hits with no runs.
Game Three of the Black & Gold Series is slated for Sunday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at Lambert Field.
