Upp played in 27 games and started 21 times... started 15 games at designated hitter and also made five starts as a corner outfield and one at catcher... started 13 consecutive games from Feb. 22 through March 21... started Big Ten games against Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Iowa... started midweek wins against Butler, IPFW and Illinois State... posted multiple-hit games against Butler, Illinois State and Iowa... recorded a pair of RBI vs. Samford and Iowa... reached base safely 47 percent of the time when leading off an inning... reached base safely in four of his seven at-bats in the Birmingham doubleheader, driving in a run in each of his final two at-bats vs. Samford in the nightcap... walked twice in games against Rice and San Diego State. After making the transition from position player to pitcher in the fall, Upp pitched in six games before an arm injury ended his season in March... granted a medical redshirt... worked three innings of one-hit relief in the Feb. 24 game against Samford in his top outing of the season... also made appearances against South Florida, Illinois-Chicago, Evansville and Ohio State.
Upp played in 10 games and started game two of the Wichita State series at designated hitter... singled against Maryland in his first college at-bat... singled and scored a run in his start in game two of the Wichita State series... recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the finale of the Murray State series... saw action behind the plate against Maryland, Murray State, Anderson, Illinois-Chicago and IPFW... moving to a relief pitcher role for the 2013 season.
Upp was a four-year letter-winner at La Porte High School... batted .468 with 18 extra-base hits and 36 RBIs as a senior... helped lead LHS to Duneland Athletic Conference and sectional titles as a junior, batting .338 with 31 RBIs while throwing out 11 of 16 base stealers... two-time All-Duneland performer as an upperclassman was also a three-time all-area honoree... enjoyed playing basketball, helping his intramural team win a local tournament three years in a row... four-year honor roll student... National Honor Society.

Upp... born Sept. 10, 1992 in La Porte... son of Scott and Pam Upp... his father played baseball at Missouri State and is the head varsity coach at La Porte High School... family also includes brothers Kevin and Travis... older brother Kevin played baseball at Valparaiso... majoring in organizational leadership and supervision.
