Selected by the New York Mets 35th overall in Compensation Round A of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, becoming the third-highest Purdue player selected in program history... only Sherard Clinkscales (31st in 1992) and Jermaine Allensworth (34th in 1993) were picked earlier... he was also Purdue's highest draftee since Chadd Blasko was picked 36th overall in 2002... first Big Ten player selected in the 2012 Draft and the earliest selection since 2010.

Big East/Big Ten Challenge (Feb. 18-20): selected to the All-Tournament team after recording multiple hits and at least one RBI in the wins against Connecticut (2-for-5, 3 RBIs) and Pittsburgh (3-for-4, RBI, 2 runs), finishing the weekend 6-for-12 with four RBIs... at Morehead State (Feb. 26-27): recorded two hits and an RBI in three of the four games, highlighted by a big Sunday doubleheader that him finish the day 4-for-8 with five runs scored... at Louisville (March 8): doubled, walked and scored twice in the midweek win... at Tennessee-Martin (March 11-13): came back with three hits in the finale after being held hitless for the first time in 2011 in the middle game of the weekend series... at Tennessee Tech (March 18-20): led the way with a 6-for-11 series, scoring four times after drawing four free passes; reached base safely six times in his 5-for-5 effort in the finale... Wabash (March 23): reached base safely in each of his four plate appearances as the starting DH, going 3-for-3 with a double, RBI single and a run scored... Bradley (March 25-27): doubled, drove in a pair and scored twice in the home win... IPFW (March 29): posted another two-hit game, scoring twice in the midweek win... Michigan (April 8-10): reached base safely in all three games of the series, drawing a walk and driving in a run with sac fly in each of the first two games... at Ball State (April 12): reached base safely four times, scoring twice, in the midweek win... at IPFW (April 13): posted his second collegiate four-RBI games thanks to a pair of two-run singles... at Penn State (April 15-17): led the way in the series victory, finishing the weekend 6-for-13 with four RBIs and five runs scored; doubled twice as part of a four-hit effort in the rubber game win... at Northwestern (April 23-24): reached base safely in all three games of the series victory, again recording four hits in a rubber game win... Indiana (April 30-May 1): hit safely in all three games, highlighted by series finale in which he knocked in a pair and scored twice on two-hit day... at Michigan State (May 6-8): ripped three doubles into left field in the series finale, posting the first three-double game by a Boiler since February 2009; was called out at the plate while trying to score the game-tying run in the ninth inning on a two-out single by Payton Bieker Sunday... Illinois (May 13-15): finished the weekend with a team-high six RBIs after homering in each of the final two games of the series; connected for a go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning of the rubber game... Iowa (May 19-21): had two hits and an RBI to help Purdue rally for victories in each of the first two games of the series, finishing the weekend 4-for-11... at Big Ten Tournament (May 25-27): drove in Purdue's first run of the tournament with an RBI single in the victory against Penn State...
