2014 Season McElroy pitched in 25 games, making his first collegiate start in the finale of the Southern Illinois series... ranked eighth in the Big Ten appearances through the end of the regular season... his 25 appearances were also 13th in a season at Purdue... 13 appearances in Big Ten play were tied for third in the league and tied for ninth in a single season in Purdue history... allowed only five of 16 inherited runners to score (31 percent)... took the mound in all three games of the Michigan State series... struck out a career-high six over three hitless innings of relief in the finale of the Ohio State series... pitched a career-high four innings, giving up two runs, in the finale of the San Diego State series... was not charged with an earned run until his ninth appearance of the year (game four at SDSU)... struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief in the finale of the Illinois series... did not give up a home run in 24 innings pitched... limited opposing hitters to a .227 average with two outs. 2013 Season McElroy pitched in 21 games, often times as a situational lefty... would have established a Purdue freshman record for appearances if not for teammate Mike Lutz (25 in 2013)... became just the the third freshman in program history to make 20 appearances... allowed only six of 22 inherited runners to score for a team-best percentage of .273... earned his first collegiate win with a scoreless inning of relief in game two of the Southern Illinois series, striking out the first batter he faced to leave the bases loaded in the top of the seventh... pitched in all three games of the Michigan series, joining teammates Brett Andrzejewski and Mike Lutz as the first Purdue relievers to appear in all three games of a series since 2009... made two appearances in five other weekend series... worked a season-high two innings of scoreless relief in the Feb. 23 loss at Mississippi State... struck out the side after giving up a leadoff single in the eighth inning at Indiana State.
High School McElroy played for coaches Mike Manno, Ken Wieda and Joe Rybak at St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Ill.... all-area special mention as a senior after compiling a 2.25 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 58 innings... threw a no-hitter in IHSA playoffs regional semifinal... helped lead St. Viator to back-to-back regional titles as an upperclassman.
