2013 Season Lutz pitched in 25 games and started the spring break trip game at Louisville... ranked second on the team in appearances, taking the mound in 15 Big Ten games to rank second in the league in conference play... established a new Purdue freshman record with his 25 appearances... pitched in all three games of the Penn State and Michigan State series, joining teammates Brett Andrzejewski and Tim McElroy as the first Purdue relievers to appear in all three games of a series since 2009... starred in relief in the first-ever sweep at Penn State, working 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief over his three appearances... earned his first collegiate win with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless work in the series finale at PSU... gave Purdue a chance to win in his start at Louisville, pitching four innings of two-run ball while surrendering only three hits... also went 4 1/3 innings of quality relief in the middle game of the Northwestern series, keeping NU off the scoreboard until a two-out walk in the ninth led to a big inning... retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced in his appearance against Northwestern... worked 3 1/3 innings of hitless relief in the season finale against Iowa... worked two innings of scoreless relief in the middle game of the Samford series.
