2015 Season
Academic All-Big Ten… Lutz pitched in 14 games and started the midweek win at Valparaiso… pitched a career-high 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball in the Valpo win… will enter his senior season ranked fifth all-time at Purdue with 69 career appearances… made appearances in Big Ten play against Rutgers, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland and Michigan State… induced six ground balls in 28 2/3 innings pitched to rank second on the team… compiled a 2.30 ERA and .208 batting average against in 15 2/3 innings over six appearances in true road games… worked 4 1/3 innings of two-run relief in the opener of the Michigan State series… worked an inning of scoreless relief in each of the first two games of the series at nationally ranked Illinois, highlighted by a 1-2-3 frame vs. the Illini’s 1-2-3 hitters in the opener… induced a 6-4-3 double play and retired all five batters he faced in his season debut at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi… worked a 1-2-3 inning at Ball State… pitched three innings of relief against Gonzaga and Maryland. 2014 Season
Academic All-Big Ten... Lutz pitched in a team-high 30 games, making starts against Illinois and Butler... became just the third pitcher in program history to appear in 30 games in a season and first since 2008... led the Big Ten in appearances through the end of the regular season and finished the year tied for third overall... has taken the mound in 55 of Purdue's 101 games (54 percent) in his first two seasons as a Boilermaker, already just one appearance shy of joining the program's all-time top 15 list... made 14 of his 30 appearances in 2014 in Big Ten play to rank second in the league and sixth on the program's single-season list... with 29 career Big Ten appearances, already ranks ninth in Purdue history... allowed 13 of 32 inherited base runners (41 percent) to score... took the mound in all three games of the Rice and Michigan series... pitched a combined 5 1/3 innings of two-hit relief in the Michigan series... worked two or more innings in 11 of his 30 appearances... pitched a career-high 4 2/3 innings in the finale of the San Diego State series, holding SDSU without a hit until the 10th inning... earned the win in series openers with Southern Illinois and Ohio State, working at least three innings in both games... induced and started a game-ending 1-2-3 double play with the bases loaded and Purdue clinging to a one-run leading in the series-opening win at Illinois, becoming the first Boiler pitcher to end a game in that fashion since February 2012... also earned saves in Big Ten wins against Penn State (3 scoreless IP) and Michigan (retired 6 of 7)... worked 3 2/3 innings of two-hit relief in the 13-inning walk-off win against Ohio State... surrendered only one home run in 48 1/3 innings... base stealers were only 2-of-9 while he was on the mound... compiled a 3.21 ERA over 14 innings pitched in Big Ten home games... did not give up an earned while pitching in five of the six games in February (4 2/3 innings)... worked three innings of one-run relief in the opener of the Indiana series. 2013 Season
Lutz pitched in 25 games and started the spring break trip game at Louisville... ranked second on the team in appearances, taking the mound in 15 Big Ten games to rank second in the league in conference play... established a new Purdue freshman record with his 25 appearances... pitched in all three games of the Penn State and Michigan State series, joining teammates Brett Andrzejewski and Tim McElroy as the first Purdue relievers to appear in all three games of a series since 2009... starred in relief in the first-ever sweep at Penn State, working 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief over his three appearances... earned his first collegiate win with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless work in the series finale at PSU... gave Purdue a chance to win in his start at Louisville, pitching four innings of two-run ball while surrendering only three hits... also went 4 1/3 innings of quality relief in the middle game of the Northwestern series, keeping NU off the scoreboard until a two-out walk in the ninth led to a big inning... retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced in his appearance against Northwestern... worked 3 1/3 innings of hitless relief in the season finale against Iowa... worked two innings of scoreless relief in the middle game of the Samford series.

Lutz was a three-year varsity letter-winner for Gary Simon at Lake Zurich High School in suburban Chicago... two-time all-conference honoree was voted LZHS's top pitcher each of his upperclassman seasons... all-area as a senior after being honorable mention a year earlier... sportsmanship award recipient as a senior... high honor roll student every semester.

Full name is Michael William Lutz... born in Palatine, Ill.... parents are Mike and Cheryl Lutz... family also includes five younger siblings: Olivia, Emily, Mary, Jon and Anna... majoring in management and finance with a career ambition of working in the sports industry.
