Wood played in all 54 games, starting 52 times... started 51 games at first base and one at designated hitter... also pitched in relief three times, striking out 13 of the 32 batters he faced... recognized as team MVP and offensive player of the year after becoming the first Boilermaker since 2007 to win the team triple crown... also led the team in hits, doubles, slugging and on-base percentage... named second team all-conference by College Sports Madness... enjoyed a monster series at Oklahoma (9-for-11, 3 XBH, 2 BB, 7 RBI, 4 runs) to become the first Boilermaker to win Big Ten Player of the Week honors since... played against his younger brother Brad, Northern Illinois' starting third baseman, as Purdue squared off against the Huskies the weekend of March 13-15... struck out seven of the 15 batters he faced to help the Boilers record 15 K's in the series finale victory at Western Carolina... homered twice at Oklahoma, in consecutive games vs. Iowa, and in games against IPFW and Michigan State... hit safely in all three games of the series at Illinois for the third straight year... also hit safely in all three games of the Oklahoma, Northern Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska series... had 12 productive plate appearances in his 14 trips to the dish at Oklahoma, recording multiple hits in all three games and his first career four-hit effort in the rubber game... registered a season-high four RBI in the series-opening win at Oklahoma... posted a 10-game hitting streak from March 29 through April 15 and a 13-game reached safely streak from Feb. 21 through March 15... reached base safely in the first 10 Big Ten games of the season and the final eight games of the year overall... drove in a run in five straight games from April 18-24... struck out five over 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief in the home-opening win vs. Iowa... among the Big Ten leaders, ranked 12th in on-base percentage as well as 15th in batting average and slugging percentage... was second in the Big Ten in putouts... ranks third in program history with 38 career hit by pitch... reached base 52 percent of the time when leading off an inning... with a runner on third and less than two outs, plated that runner in 11 of his 16 opportunities (69 percent)... batted .342 at Alexander Field and a team-best .439 in midweek action... batted .455 in Purdue victories, nearly .100 points higher than any teammate... after big series at Oklahoma, March (.386, 13 RBI) turned out to be his most productive month of the season... was 8-for-21 with a .519 on-base percentage during the six-game April homestand. 2013 Season
Big Ten All-Freshman Team... Wood played in 46 games and started 44 times... started games at designated hitter (38), pitcher (7), right field (3) and first base (2)... started all 24 Big Ten games... was the first Purdue starting pitcher to also bat in the lineup since 2003... established a new Purdue freshman batting record by getting hit by a pitch 14 times... was relegated to a designated hitter role for much of the season after suffering a forearm injury in the second inning of his second start on the mound (Feb. 24 vs. Samford)... returned to the mound April 13 at Illinois for an inning of relief and to the rotation April 21 against Nebraska... did start again as a position player until May 8 at Ball State... did not play the entire weekend series at Samford after suffering the injury the Sunday before... impressed in his collegiate debut on the mound, working seven innings of four-run ball against College World Series qualifier Louisville at the season-opening Big East/Big Ten Challenge... didn't allow Louisville to score after the third inning and struck out two of the final three batters he faced in the top of the seventh to keep the game tied... started the finale of each of the final five weekend series of the season but was always on a limited pitch count... led the team with five home runs, 32 runs scored and 14 hit by pitch... batted third in the lineup a team-high 22 times... had two hits and at least one RBI in all three games of the Illinois series... recorded an RBI in a team-high five consecutive games in mid-April... scored a run in all three games of the Southern Illinois series... with a runner on third base and less than two outs, plated the runner in eight of his nine opportunities... homered against Mississippi State, Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Michigan State and Eastern Michigan... batted a team-best .324 with 10 extra-base hits and team-highs on-base percentage (.463) and runs scored (18) in true road games... batted .356 (16-for-45) in Big Ten road action... reached base safely in seven of his 12 plate appearances, scoring four times, at the Mississippi State tournament... finished the Illinois series 6-for-10 with three free passes, four RBI and four runs scored while hitting for the cycle over the course of the weekend... recorded eight RBI over the course of the three-game season series with Illinois-Chicago thanks in part to a big game (3-for-5, 2B, HR, 5 RBI) in the midweek date at Alexander Field... reached base safely in seven of his 14 plate appearances and also worked four innings of one-run ball on the mound in the series at Michigan State... batted .310 (18-for-58) with seven extra-base hits and a team-high 14 RBI in April... walked and scored three times each in the spring break trip win at Cincinnati... had three hits in Big Ten wins against Penn State and Northwestern... delivered the big hit in the game two win at Evansville, a two-out, two-run double to break open a scoreless game in the sixth inning... finished the season have reached base safely in eight straight games.

Wood was a four-year varsity starter at St. Laurence High School in suburban Chicago Burbank, Ill.... two-time First Team All-State honoree as an upperclassman finished his high school career with .445 batting average and 31 home runs... batted .538 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs while also posting a 7-2 record with 73 strikeouts, a 1.72 ERA and a .162 batting average against in 53 innings pitched to earn Catholic League MVP honors as a junior... did not pitch as a senior due to an elbow injury but still batted .476 with 18 extra-base hits and 31 RBIs... Lawless Award winner as the Catholic League's most outstanding senior... Reporter Newspaper Player of the Year as a junior after tossing three one-hitters... three-time all-conference and all-area honoree recognized as a sophomore after batting .385 with 44 RBIs... led St. Laurence to three straight Catholic League titles from 2009-11 and regional titles in 2009 and 2011... four-year leader scholar award recipient.
