Selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 35th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft... opted to sign with the Cubs after being a draft-eligible sophomore, forgoing his final two seasons of college eligibility.

2014 Season
Minch started all 14 games in which he pitched... started the season opener and the first game of every Big Ten series except Indiana... made all of his 28 career stats as a Boilermaker on weekends... had a string of five consecutive quality starts over the first five weekends of conference play... led the team in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts... ranked eighth in the Big Ten in innings pitched through the end of the regular season and 12th overall... worked at least six innings in nine of his 14 starts and averaged over 6.19 innings per start overall... struck out a season-high seven in starts against Penn State and Michigan... worked a career-high nine innings in the extra-innings win against Ohio State... retired 13 of the final 16 batters he faced against OSU, highlighted by striking out the side in the top of the ninth, after Purdue initially had the bullpen warming in the third inning... did not give up a hit until the fifth inning of his start against Penn State, retiring 14 of the first 15 batters he faced, but suffered the loss in the 2-1 final... led Purdue to a Big Ten-opening win at Illinois with eight innings of three-run ball while not giving up an extra-base hit... struck out six over 5 1/3 innings of one-run worker in opener at Southern Illinois... put together a quality start (6 IP, 5 H, 3 R) in outing at Samford... pitched well at Michigan State for the second year in a row, surrendering three runs over 7 1/3 innings while striking out five... worked 4 2/3 innings of two-run ball in season-opening start at Tennessee... surrendered only three home runs in 86 2/3 innings after giving up seven in 81 1/3 as a freshman... limited hitters to a .242 average at Alexander after surrendering only 24 hits in 26 1/3 innings... compiled a 3.30 ERA and .220 batting average against over 30 innings pitched in April. 2013 Season
Big Ten All-Freshman Team... two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week (March 18 & April 22)... Minch pitched in 16 games, making a start in each of Purdue's 14 weekends of action... recognized as the team's pitcher of the year and newcomer of the year... established new Purdue freshman records for strikeouts, innings pitched and games started... became the first Purdue freshman to make 10-plus starts on the mound since 2007... on two occasions, pitched in relief later in the weekend after a short start... made three series-opening starts in Big Ten play: at Penn State, vs. Northwestern and at Illinois... Purdue was 6-8 when he started, 11-26 when any other pitcher did... won his starts against Illinois-Chicago, Evansville, Penn State, Northwestern and Michigan State... also gave Purdue a good chance to win in starts against Mississippi State, Samford, Nebraska and Southern Illinois... earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for his stellar performances against Evansville (6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7 K) and Nebraska (7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 8 K)... worked eight innings of one-run ball in the series-opening win at Penn State, his first series-opening start... remove the two weekends in which he didn't make it out of the first inning as the starter and his season numbers were 5-3 with a 3.74 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 77 innings pitched... impressed at Mississippi State with six innings of one-run ball, keeping the national runner-up off the scoreboard until the sixth inning... did not issue a walk over 7 1/3 innings of four-run ball against Northwestern to earn the win in Purdue's first-ever victory at Alexander Field... did not surrender a hit that left the infield and retired 12 consecutive batters to win a pitcher's duel at Evansville... kept Nebraska off the scoreboard until the sixth inning while working seven innings of one-run ball in the Alexander Field dedication game... induced a pair of double plays and pitched out of numerous jams in quality start at Michigan State (7 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 3 K) to help Purdue win game two of the series... struck out a season-high eight against Nebraska... fanned seven in starts against Evansville, Southern Illinois and Iowa... ranked ninth in the Big Ten in strikeouts (63), as well as sixth in conference play with 35 Ks.

Minch was a four-year varsity letter-winner for coach Dan Miller at Highland high School in Northwest Indiana... also played four years of basketball... four-year all-conference and all-area honoree... led the team in strikeouts as a sophomore, junior and senior... two-way player also led the team in doubles as a junior and batting average as a senior... selected to the White Sox Area Code team as a junior... selected for the 2012 Indiana North/South All-Star Game... also a three-year all-conference and all-area standout in basketball... honor roll student was elected to HHS homecoming and prom courts.
