Career:Daniel Hernandez played for just one year for the Boilermakers after transferring from Taylor University. Hernandez transferred to Purdue in the fall of 1999, and chose to focus on his schoolwork and getting used to his new environment, as well as focusing on another sport he was gifted in, that being soccer.

2001: Finished with 14 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched ... pitched five consecutive outings without giving up an earned run ... pitched back-to-back two-inning affairs without allowing an earned run against Indiana State (May 5) and Chicago State (May 8) ... struck out a season-high three batters against Chicago State ... also struck out three batters at San Diego (March 13) and against Evansville (May 10) ... made his debut in a Purdue uniform on Feb. 23 vs. Ball State ... also pitched 1.2 innings against Illinois in the Big Ten tournament.

Taylor University: Hernandez has one year left after transferring from Taylor University ... as a freshman at Taylor, went 5-4 with a 4.24 ERA ... pitched three complete games with one shutout ... as a sophomore, was 3-3 with a 6.04 ERA ... went 5-5 with a 5.50 ERA and was second on the team with 50 strikeouts as a junior started 12 games, including six complete games as a junior at Taylor ... was also a soccer player, earning Academic All-American honors in 1997.

Personal: a native of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Hernandez is the son of Mario and Ana Hernandez ... has one brother, Mario, and one sister, Ana ... played soccer in high school in Honduras, where he helped his team to a national chamionship and scored 18 goals in 17 games his senior year.
