Parker pitched in 16 games and started the regular season finale at Minnesota... established a new Purdue freshman record with six saves, eclipsing a benchmark that had stood since 1993... recorded more strikeouts (43) than hits allowed (33) in 43 innings pitched... posted a strong 6.907 hits per nine innings ratio. Parker was a four-year letterwinner for coach Josh Haley at St. Joseph-Ogden High School in east central Illinois... also played basketball for three years, starting on varsity as a junior... two-way standout was a two-time all-state honoree as an upperclassman... Champaign News-Gazette and WCIA-TV Player of the Year as a senior after compiling a 10-1 record with a 0.58 ERA in 68 1/3 innings on the mound and a .367 batting average at the plate... helped St. Joe-Ogden finish as the class 2A state runner-up his senior year... went 11-0 with a 0.28 ERA in 63 1/3 innings pitched as a junior, earning first team all-conference and all-area honors... batted .457 as a sophomore and .331 as a junior... three-time academic honor letterwinner.
