Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American... Big Ten All-Freshman Team... Bonner played in 47 games, making 38 starts... made a team-high 33 starts at catcher and five at designated hitter... opened the season as the backup catcher but played his way into the everyday lineup... led the Boilermakers in walks (26) while ranking third in doubles (13) and OPS (.811)... only the fourth Purdue freshman to record 13 doubles... first freshman since 2006 to lead the team in walks... team's first qualifying freshman of the BBCOR bat era (2011-present) to post an .800-plus OPS... started 25 straight games from March 31 to May 13, including 14 consecutive games at catcher during that stretch... was behind the plate for every inning of the Boilermakers' second seven-game win streak of the season; during that streak, Purdue did not trail for 57 consecutive innings... caught 122 consecutive innings from April 18 to May 12... had a double in four straight games on the spring break trip and 12 doubles in a span of 66 at-bats from March 11 to April 18... reached base safely in 12 straight Big Ten games from April 8 to May 12... reached base safely in the first 13 games of the season in which he started... debuted in impressive fashion, putting together eight productive plate appearances in nine trips to the dish over the final two games of the season-opening series at Texas State. Bonner was a four-year letterwinner for coach Brian Jones at Jesuit College Prep of Dallas... three-year first team all-district catcher... third team all-state and all-state tournament honoree as a senior, batting .317 with a .420 on-base and 35 RBI... helped lead his team to the 2016 UIL 6A state title... three-year defensive team MVP, winning the award as freshman, junior and senior... batted .387 with a .465 OBP and 16 RBI as a junior... batted .287 with 17 RBI as a sophomore after also driving in 19 runs as a freshman.
