Purdue Sweeps Doubleheader against Indiana
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue baseball team swepts a pair of seven-inning games against Indiana Saturday, winning the first game, 5-4, before taking the nightcap, 13-11.
The Boilers used home runs by Todd Ellinger and Mike Rothstein to score five runs off their eight hits. The Boilers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take turn a 4-2 defecit into a 5-4 lead.
Chris Bloomer pitched the first six innings, allowing four runs on six hits to pick up the win. Jeff Reder, the winner of the continuation game played earlier in the day, came on to pitch the seventh and pick up his fifth save of the day.
Purdue used that momentum to jump out to a nine-run lead in the bottom of the first inning in the second game. However, after Indiana put an eight spot on the board inthe fourth inning, the Boilers found their lead dwidled down to 11-9.
Daryl Hallado went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI to lead Purdue's offensive attack. For the game, the Boilers pounded out 12 hits in scoring 13 runs.
Jeremy Ballard picked up the win, releiving Russ Morgan, who ran into trouble in the fourth inning. Reder picked up the save, his sixth on the year. Reder finished the day with a victory and two saves.
With the pair of victories Purdue improved to 27-23 overall and 16-11 in the Big Ten
