Wildcats Defeat Purdue, 4-2

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior right-handed pitcher Brad Brasser retired the final 13 batters of the game and the Northwestern offense pounded out 13 hits as the Wildcats defeated Purdue 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Rocky Miller Park. The win gives NU a weekend split with the Boilermakers.

NU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning on RBI singles by Ollie Dunn, Patrick Thompson and Bob Dainton. The trio would combine for nine of NU's 13 hits and all three Wildcat RBI in the game.

Purdue answered with two runs in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 3-2. The Wildcats added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Andrew Kirsh scored on a wild pitch from Purdue reliever Jeff Reder.

Brasser improves to 5-4 on the season, while Purdue starter Andy Helmer drops to 0-3. The Wildcats record is now 13-26, 5-1 in the Big Ten. Purdue falls to 17-22, 10-10 in the Big Ten.
