Bennett Powers Boilermakers Past Ball State, 8-6
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University baseball team used two home runs en route to 8-6 victory over Ball State Wednesday before a crowd of 108 people.
The Boilermakers (15-20) took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs. That lead was short lived, however, as the Cardinals struck back for two runs of their own in the top of the second off Purdue starting pitcher Russ Morgan.
Morgan hung tough though, pitching six innings to eventually pick up his first victory of the season.
He benefited from a five-run outburst by the Boilermakers in the fourth inning. Purdue's offense was led by second baseman Rod Metzler, who finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI and Bill Bennett, who hit his fifth home run of the season to go along with 3 RBI.
The Boilermakers return to action Friday with a road series against the Wildcats of Northwestern.
