Illinois Defeats Purdue in Extra Innings, 8-7
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Purdue baseball team surrendered a 6-2 lead and eventually lost to Illinois, 8-7, in extra innings Friday before 414 fans in Champaign, ILL.
The Boilermakers committed four errors, leading to six unearned runs for the Fighting Illini. With the victory the Illini improved to 15-13 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten. Purdue falls to 8-18, 2-7 Big Ten.
Purdue pitcher Mike Hedman pitched eight innings, allowing seven runs, though only one was earned. He struck out two batters and walked none, though he did hit five Illini batters.
Leading the way offensively for the Boilermakers was catcher Anthony Grieco, who went 3-for-4, scoring two runs to go along with two RBI.
