Illinois State Defeats Purdue, 5-2
NORMAL, Ill. - The Purdue baseball team fell to 8-17 with a 5-2 loss to Illinois State on Tuesday. The Boilermakers, who have lost seven straight, managed only six hits in the contest.
The Redbirds took an early lead with three runs in the first inning. That was more than enough for freshman pitcher Bryan Forystek, who went the distance for Illinois State, allowing only one earned run while striking out nine.
Purdue freshman right fielder Mike Rose drove in a run on two hits, including his fourth double of the year, while junior left fielder Robb Ramacher had a double and a stolen base. Senior Matt Luce tossed four scoreless innings of relief for the Boilers, allowing only three hits while fanning five.
Purdue will next travel to Champaign, Ill. for a four-game Big Ten series with the Fighting Illini, beginning on April 4.
