Tomsyck Earns Academic Honor

Senior outfielder Mark Tomsyck of the Purdue baseball team was named to the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District V Baseball Team for 1998. The Milwaukee, Wis., native is sixth in Purdue history with 46 career-stolen bases. He hit a career-high .328 this season with 11 stolen bases. An excellent contact hitter, Tomsyck struck out only nine times in 122 at-bats in 1998. Tomsyck, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, has also excelled defensively, committing only one error in the past two seasons as Purdue's starting center fielder. A total of 85 members from the College Sports Information Directors of America voted for the athletes. District V consists of schools from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario.
