WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Fans traveling to Saturday's football game at Ross-Ade Stadium between Purdue and visiting Nebraska can use a website to help them navigate game-day traffic around campus and back to local hotels.
The recently developed website shows where parking lots are located and what suggested routes to take exiting the campus area from all of the parking lots operated by Purdue. In addition to the maps, a handout has been created that will show guests and visitors where public parking is available on Purdue's campus. QR Codes on these handouts can be scanned with a smart phone to find suggested routes from campus to Indianapolis, Chicago, Delphi, or the hotels on South Street in Lafayette.
"The routes plan will help traffic flow in all directions," Purdue police Chief John Cox said. "Fans need to understand while these routes are designed to promote efficient traffic flow, emergency situations such as a traffic crash, medical emergency or bad weather may cause police to reroute postgame traffic away from the preferred routes."
In addition to the website, there will be electronic message boards directing motorists to the correct lanes and providing guidance at intersections where police are directing traffic.
Purdue Athletics and Purdue police collaborated with Purdue Police; Purdue Physical Facilities; Purdue Office of Public Affairs; and Darcy Bullock, professor of civil engineering and director of the Joint Transportation Research Program, to develop the strategies.
Kickoff Saturday is noon ET.
