INDIANAPOLIS - A capacity-plus crowd of more than 400 will hear an exclusive presentation by Purdue president Mitch Daniels on Aug. 30 at the Columbia Club in downtown Indianapolis.
The presentation - entitled "An Exclusive Look at the First 200 Days as Purdue President" - will begin at 10:45 a.m. and precede the Boilermaker Tailgate on the Circle. Topics will include improving operational efficiencies to help keep college affordable, attracting Indiana superstar students and the impact of scholarship money, assisting with the commercialization of business ingenuity, and enhancing Purdue's reputation. Daniels will field questions afterwards.
Original capacity for the event was set at 300, but the high demand among Purdue professionals and business leaders resulted in accommodations to allow for more than 100 additional guests.
Proceeds from the event (a nominal fee of $20 is being charged per attendee) will be donated to the Purdue Alumni Club of Indianapolis for scholarships.
The highly anticipated Boilermaker Tailgate on the Circle will be a super-sized pep rally from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monument Circle will be a sea of gold and black as Purdue fans gather to send off the football team as it heads to Cincinnati for the season opener the following day.
The tailgate will include the full game-day cast, including the entire team, first-year head coach Darrell Hazell
, cheerleaders, pep band, Purdue Pete, the World's Largest Drum and the Boilermaker Special. Special guests expected to be present are Daniels; athletics director Morgan Burke
; and other notable Purdue graduates, including event emcees Angela Buchman and Kevin Gregory, past Miss Indiana MerrieBeth Cox and numerous Boilermaker football and basketball legends.
The festive rally will feature an all-star fleet of tailgate vehicles displayed around Monument Circle, plus vendor food trucks (including campus favorites Arni's and Triple XXX); a beer garden featuring Sun King Brewing; an autograph area highlighting past football all-stars; and logo merchandise for purchase.
The Tailgate on the Circle is sponsored and organized by the Boiler Business Exchange of Indianapolis, founded to unite business men and women who have a passion for all things Purdue. The primary objectives of the organization are to capitalize on the strength of central Indiana's Boiler business network and community leadership, to support the John Purdue Club and Purdue Alumni Association, and to promote Purdue University academics and athletics.
