Men's Basketball to Face Kansas State, Weber to Open Maui Invitational

Men's basketball will open play in the EA Sports Maui Invitational on Nov. 24 against Kansas State and head coach Bruce Weber. The long-time assistant at Purdue (1981-98) under legendary coach Gene Keady subsequently became head coach at Southern Illinois, where current Purdue head coach Matt Painter was an assistant under Weber from 1998 to 2003. Weber left to take the Illinois vacancy, while Painter took over the Southern Illinois reigns in 2004. Painter and Weber then coached against one other while Weber was at Illinois from 2004 to 2012.

Purdue's second game from the Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Hawai'i, will be against either Arizona or Missouri on Nov. 25. The other side of the bracket has BYU vs. San Diego State and Pittsburgh vs. host Chaminade.

The matchup with Kansas State means the Boilermakers will face two long-time assistant coaches in 2014-15 as Purdue takes on Kevin Stallings of Vanderbilt on Dec. 13 in Nashville. Stallings was an assistant coach at Purdue from 1983 to 88.
