WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The NCAA announced today that all 20 Purdue teams (indoor and outdoor track and field are counted separately) are above the 930 Academic Progress Rate (APR) cutoff for the second straight year.

Nine of the squads maintained or improved their multi-year rate from a year ago, including men's basketball (remained 995), football (953 vs. 946) and volleyball (remained 1,000). Four teams had perfect 1,000 scores for the current year: men's golf, soccer, women's tennis and volleyball.

The APR, now in its ninth year, measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. The most-recent APR scores are multi-year rates - or a rolling four-year average - based on the scores from the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years.

Last week, the volleyball team received its eighth consecutive public recognition award for posting a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent of its sport. Men's basketball likewise was recognized for the second straight year.

"We are pleased that all of our programs are above the established threshold for the second straight year," Purdue director of athletics Morgan Burke said. "We fully support the NCAA's mission of academic reform, although we believe that a continued critical assessment of the impact of transfer students who leave while eligible is needed when calculating the APR scores."

Meanwhile, the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of Purdue student-athletes has improved from 78.4 percent to 80 percent and is on track to hit 82 percent in 2014. Overall, 90 percent of student-athletes completing his/her degree at Purdue graduate.

Purdue student-athletes have achieved a higher cumulative grade-point average than then overall student body for 31 consecutive semesters (15 and a half years), and that streak is expected to reach 32 semesters when spring 2013 grades are finalized.
