WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue junior Caden Shields has already made his mark on Purdue cross country history, but look to take that to the next level on Monday as he's set to compete in the NCAA Championships, hosted by Indiana State University at Lavern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The 10K race is scheduled to start at approximately 12:08 p.m. and will air live on Versus and will be webcast at NCAA.com.

The first Purdue male to qualify for the national race since 1987, when Bob Stolz advanced for the Old Gold and Black, Shields earned his at-large qualifier with a 10th-place showing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships last Saturday. Shields turned in a career-best 10K in the race, hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., crossing the line in 31:22.20 and finishing just 19 seconds behind the regional champion. The effort went on to earn Shields USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors, joining freshman women's counterpart Camille Buscomb as the Boilermakers' first regional award winners since 2005.

The Boilermakers will be one of eight men's teams representing the Big Ten Conference at the NCAA Championship meet as four teams earned qualification, while four others, including Purdue, are sending an individual.

A full recap and results of Shields' performance will be available upon the completion of the race at PurdueSports.com.
