WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue junior Caden Shields broke a 23-year old Boilermaker drought on Sunday, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 23, at Indiana State University. His at-large honor was one of just two awarded nationally among nine NCAA regional championship races, as both bids were given in the Great Lakes region.

Shields is the first member of the Purdue men's cross country team to qualify for the national championships since 1987, when Bob Stolz advanced to the national race at the University of Virginia and turned in the second-best NCAA showing in school history at 30:06.50. Shields ran a career-best 10K at Indiana University yesterday, finishing 10th overall in 31:22.20, good for one of the top individual efforts in school history. He was just 19 seconds behind the regional champion, Jeff See of Ohio State, and led the Boilermakers to a 15th-place team showing.

Indiana State University will host the Championships, November 23, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. The men's race will begin at approximately 12:08 p.m., and will be broadcast live on Versus Network and streamed online via NCAA.com.
