WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's cross country teams return to action this weekend on Saturday as they head to Richmond, Ind., to take part in the IU East Regional.

The Purdue men will run a younger group on Saturday. Six individuals are slated to compete including three freshmen, two true with Blake Mills and Andy Mack, and Connor Geshay. The other three competitors are redshirt juniors Simon Rogers, Steven Stoot, and Christopher Surfus.

"This weekend provides a great opportunity for some of the younger guys to get into a competitive environment," assistant coach Jake Stewart said. "We are excited about our progress. We are looking forward to the weeks ahead."

Mack finished ninth at the IPFW Invitational earlier this season with a 26:09.47 in the 8K. Classmate Mills finished just behind him in 10th after crossing the finish line in 26:11.00. Rogers finished 14th with a time of 26:36.84. Stoot took home 19th place overall after running a 27:27.54. Geshay crossed the line in 28:12.11 at IPFW, good for 29th place. The Purdue men took the top spot at that meet.

On the women's side, eight individuals will make the trip to Richmond. Senior Katie Conrad, freshman Maria Paolillo, and redshirt sophomore Kayla McCurdy will return to action while Alice Feslier Holmes, Kari Shoolbraid, Megan Plenus, BreAnna Smith, and Haley Davis will make their first appearance of the season.

"This weekend is a great opportunity for some of the women to compete," assistant coach Sarah Haveman said. "We have been taking great steps forward and we are looking forward to the rest of the season."

McCurdy finished 21st at this season's IPFW Invite after she finished the 5K in 20:15.87. Paolillo took home 38th after crossing the finish line in 21:35.63 at that same race. Conrad took home 45th with a time of 22:29.30. The Purdue women finished first at IPFW on Sept. 10.

Saturday's action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET. The women's 5K race will be first followed by the men's 8K at about 11:45. Results and a full recap can be found at following completion of the meet.
