WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The cross country teams host their first meet since the 2014 Indiana Intercollegiates on Friday. The Boilermakers host the Indiana Intercollegiates which begin with the women's 6,000-meter championship race at 3:30 p.m. ET. The men's 8,000-meter championship race will follow at 4:15 p.m. The open races begin at 5 and 5:45 for the women and men, respectively.
The Boilermakers welcome teams from around the state for the meet. Indiana, Indiana State and Ball State (women), as well as Purdue, make up the division I teams in the meet. Fourteen other programs from the state will also compete.
The top Boilermakers from the men's and women's teams will make their season debut Friday. For the women, Emma Benner, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a national qualifier last season, will compete in the championship race. Jaret Carpenter, the top freshman finisher at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and a national qualifier a year ago, is set to make his debut for the men.
The Gatorade Indiana Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year from last year, Curt Eckstein, will make his collegiate debut for the Boilermakers. Jeremy Craven is making his season debut for the men. He was the team's No. 2 runner at Big Tens last season.
On the women's side, Grace Lachmund will make her season debut. Lachmund was Purdue's fourth finisher at Big Tens last year.
