Sept. 1, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's cross country team is set to open its 2010 season on Friday, hosting the annual Great American Legends race at the Purdue Varsity Cross Country Course. The women's 5K is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m., while the Boilermaker men found themselves without an opponent and will open at a later date.

This year's race will feature a very limited field as the Ball State University women's squad will be the only team in attendance. The Boilermaker women will run head-to-head with the Cardinals in an unscored team race.

"Friday will be a nice start to our season," said Purdue head coach Jack Warner. "Our young women's squad will get to see some competition with Ball State. The start of every year is a great opportunity to get out and race and break up the training cycle a bit."

Sophomore Camille Buscomb looks to lead the Boilermaker women's squad, hoping to build on her USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honor from a year ago.

Friday will be the Boilermakers' first opportunity to race on their home course after its recent minor adjustments. New course maps can be found at the Boilermakers' cross country home page. Results will be available upon the completion of Friday's action at PurdueSports.com.
