WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue cross country teams officially announced their schedule on Monday. The Boilermakers are set to host a pair of meets, including the Big Ten Championships, for the first time since the 2010 season.
The Boilermakers open on Aug. 30 with a trip to the University of Michigan for the Michigan Invitational. Two weeks after that, the teams are home for the Big Ten Preview meet at the recently redesigned Boilermaker Cross Country Course. The Boilermakers make a trip to Notre Dame to start October before heading to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-NCAA Invitational on the same course as the national championships in November.
The teams are privileged to host the Big Ten Championships on Nov. 3 starting at 11:15 a.m. ET. Following the championships, the Boilermakers head to the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., before making a trip to the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals in Madison, Wis., to attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The Boilermakers have the top returning overall finisher from the 2012 Big Ten Championships on the men’s side. Matthew McClintock finished eighth last season at the conference meet and all seven harriers ahead of him were seniors. The now-sophomore earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year accolades for his effort. McClintock also qualified for the NCAA Championships where he ran the sixth-fastest time by a Boilermaker at an NCAA Championship.
The Purdue women look to be led by senior Dana Payonk and junior Blair Doney as they are the top two returning women from last year’s squad. The team also has a number of talented underclassmen that look to provide depth.
