WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University head cross country and track and field coach Jack Warner announced the hiring of Conor Holt as the program's new assistant men's cross country and distance coach today.

"Conor brings a wealth of experience with him through his national and international competitions," said Warner. "His strong work ethic will help our young athletes to attain their goals and elevate our men's distance program here at Purdue. He is a great addition to our staff."

Holt comes to Purdue from Oregon State University, where he helped produced a pair of NCAA West Regional qualifiers and assisted the women's distance program. Prior to his two seasons with the Beavers, Holt boasts a wealth of success and experience in NCAA and international competition. Originally from Ireland , Holt was a 3,000-meter junior national champion and a two-time 5,000-meter junior national champ. He was also a member of Junior World Cross Country Team, participated at the Junior World Track and Field Championships in 1990 and represented his native country at the World University Games in 1993.

A six-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma , Holt holds the school records in the indoor 5,000-meter run and the outdoor 10,000-meter run. He garnered a trio of cross country All-American awards, earned three more national honors in track and field in the indoor 5K and outdoor 10K and took home the Big-8 Conference Championship in the 10K in 1996.

After his outstanding collegiate career, Holt became a United States citizen in 2002 and followed earning 2003 Oklahoma Runner of the Year accolades. He went on to become a 2004 Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier and placed 18th in the event .

Holt was married to the former Camille Herron on January 1 of this year. He will officially begin his duties on August 1.
