WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field and cross country programs will offer a June summer camp, head coach Lonnie Greene announced on Tuesday. The four-day camp will run from June 18-21 at the Dave Rankin Track and Field and the Boilermaker Cross Country Course.
The camp is open to any interested student-athlete of any skill level from 6th to 12th grade and will be led by a world-class coaching staff. Purdue head coach Lonnie Greene boasts more than 20 years of coaching experience. The second-year coach of the Boilermakers has led 33 athletes to more than 100 All-America honors, including throwers Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Dani Bunch from this year’s indoor NCAA Championships, and Matthew McClintock during the cross country season. In the two years under Greene’s direction, the Boilermakers have broken 11 indoor school records and tied another, and three outdoor program bests.
Greene has primarily worked with sprints, hurdles, horizontal jumps, and multi events. With the Boilermakers, he primarily works with the women's sprints and relays while overseeing and aiding the entire program.
Purdue’s assistant coaches and select student-athletes will also be on hand to help run the camp and offer instruction.
-Throws coach Keith McBride, the former program record holder in the weight throw prior to Enekwechi breaking the mark this season, led his group to three First Team All-America selections and a second team honor during the indoor season. His current group holds four school records and has been honored on The Bowerman Watch List, the top collegiate track and field award.
-Norbert Elliott specializes in the men’s sprinters, hurdles and relays. His group won two Big Ten Indoor Championships, the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships and two Second Team All-America honors from the indoor season, and already has the program’s second-fastest 100m dash time in program history this year.
-Dave Hartman works with the distance group and helped coach Purdue’s first cross country All-American since 1987. Other accomplishments from his group include a second place finish at the Big Ten Championships, second place finish at the Great Lakes Regional, the best men’s Big Ten cross country finish since 1991, women’s best since 2007, and the program records in the men’s 3k and 5k, among other top fives, during indoor track season.
-Angela Goodman works mainly with the women’s sprints, hurdles and relays. Accomplishments from her group include the women’s 200m dash record, two top-three times in the 60m dash, a top-three time in the 60m hurdles and a handful of scorers at the Big Ten Championships. Goodman, a former Boilermaker student-athlete, also still holds the third-best indoor triple jump in Purdue history and the second-best mark for the outdoor season.
-Chris Huffins works mainly with the jumpers and multi-event athletes. In his first year, his group broke a school record. Three of his individuals scored at the Big Ten Championships, including one medal. His group also racked up one Second Team All-America honor during the indoor season. Huffins, another former Boilermaker, holds the second-best indoor and outdoor long jumps in program history.
The highly acclaimed Boilermaker coaching staff boasts international and collegiate experience as coaches and athletes. The staff has coached Olympic medalists and has also won medals of their own. In the last year alone, the staff led four Junior National Champions and a Junior Pan-Am Games Champion.
The camp is available for commuter or residential option. All registered campers will receive a shirt. A team discount is available for five or more participants from one team or school, though all participants must register together to receive the rate.
