WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its men's All-Academic teams list on Wednesday morning and the Purdue men were among the 147 teams selected. It is the fourth consecutive year the men have earned the award.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, a team must have had a cumulative team grade point average of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship. The Boilermakers finished with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.
A total of 30 conferences are represented with the 147 teams honored. The Big East led the way with 11 schools on the list while the Big Ten and Big East were second with eight. Purdue joins Michigan State, Penn State, Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Wisconsin was named the Cross Country Men's Scholar Team of the year after winning the school's fifth national championship and posting a 3.08 GPA. Purdue had the fourth highest Big Ten GPA with a 3.12. Creighton had the nation's highest GPA of scholar team qualifiers with a 3.81.
Seven Boilermakers ran at the regional hosted by the University of Toledo. Charles White ran the fastest time for Purdue finishing in 41st overall with a time of 31:20.0 in the 10k. Ladd Mercer was the second Boilermaker to finish with a time of 31:41.1 and Simon Rogers finished in 31:43.9. Robert Stewart also ran a sub-32 minute time and Dominic DeSantis was right behind him. Stephen Schulz and Cale Allen also ran in the race.
The Boilermaker distance group continues its training with the track and field squad and will compete in the indoor home finale on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lambert Fieldhouse.
