CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Six Boilermakers competed in the Illini Open on Friday at the University of Illinois. Danny Dalton and Theo Burgwald led the men’s side, while Rachel Bales and Anna Dolce paced the women on the windy day.
Dalton finished seventh overall in the men’s 8,035-meter race. The freshman ran a time of 26:02.4 and held of an Illinois senior at the finish line in the tough racing conditions. Dalton was the second-fastest freshman in the race. Burgwald was 11th overall. He ran a time of 26:19.9.
On the women’s side, Bales was the top Boilermaker finisher. She ran a time of 18:56.3 in the women’s 4,965-meter race to take 12th.. She was the second-fastest Big Ten runner in a field that included 18 individuals from the conference. Dolce was 14th with a time of 19:01.9, while Sarah Tyler finished 17th with a time of 19:10.9. Kyra Ball finished 32nd with a time of 19:34.5.
Next week the Boilermakers will head to Minneapolis to compete in the Big Ten Championships. The race is scheduled for Oct. 30.
