CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Megan Slamkowski and Gabrielle Broschard went 1-2 in the women’s 5,000-meter race at the Illinois Open on Friday. Cole Hester was the top men’s finisher in the 8,000-meter race with a fourth place finish.
Slamkowski picked up her first collegiate win with a time of 18:34.1. She finished just ahead of Broschard who crossed the finish line in 18:37.1. Kelsey Batt made it three Boilermakers in the top four with her fourth place finish time of 18:49.9. Kyra Ball rounded out the top 10 and was the fourth Boilermaker to finish. She crossed the line in 19:16.3.
Taylor Mortensen and Reagan Lear finished 13th and 14th, respectively. Mortensen finished with a time of 19:24.4, while Lear’s time was 19:25.6. Anna Dolce rounded out the Boilermakers with a 23rd place finish time of 19:50.6.
On the men’s side, Hester’s fourth place came after finishing with a time of 24:49.3. Danny Dalton and Greg Tippmann finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Dalton finished with a time of 26:27.0, while Tippmann’s time was 26:30.4.
The Boilermakers wrapped up the regular season with the meet. The team will compete in the Big Ten Championships a week from Sunday at Indiana.
