RICHMOND, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's cross country teams had a successful day at the IU East Invite as both teams crossed the finished line nearly perfectly in a clean sweep victory of the meet.
On the men's side, the Boilermakers won their fourth consecutive race of the season. Simon Rogers took the top spot on the day as he posted a 26:53. Freshman Andy Mack finished second overall with an 8K time of 27:11. Fellow rookie Blake Mills finished just behind Mack as he took third place after crossing the finish line in 27:36. Christopher Surfus and Connor Geshay took fourth and fifth overall, respectively, after finishing in 27:41 and 28:50. Purdue had a perfect team score of 15 while IU East, the only other team in the meet, finished with a score of 40.
For the women, Alice Feslier Holmes was the lone harrier to break the 20 minute mark as she finished in 19:40 to claim the top spot. Kayla McCurdy finished second overall with a 5K time of 20:09. Megan Plenus took third as she crossed the finish line in 20:27. Kari Shoolbraid and Katie Conrad completed the perfect finish as they took fourth and fifth with times of 20:53 and 21:01, respectively. The Boilermaker women also finished with a perfect team score of 15. IU East finished second with 57 points and Midway College finished third with 68 points.
Purdue returns to action on Friday in the toughest meet of the season as it travels to the Adidas Elite Invitation in Madison, Wis. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
