High School: Four-year varsity letterwinner in cross country and track and field at Carl Sandburg High School; three-time Illinois High School State Cross Country Championship qualifier, notching a career-best finish of sixth as a senior, and running a personal record of 17:59 for three miles as a sophomore; earned all-conference, all-regional and all-sectional team honors in cross country as a senior; Illinois track and field championship qualifier in track and field in the 1,600-meter run as a sophomore and senior, and in the 4x800-meter relay three straight times from 2007-to-2009; clocked a 1,600-meter run personal record of 5:05 at the 2007 state championships; four-year academic achievement award winner.
