WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Former Boilermaker track and field athlete Nedzad Mulabegovic competes on Friday for his shot at an Olympic medal. Mulabegovic is a shot putter for Croatia.
Mulabegovic is in the Group B Qualification which is scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. ET. A total of 40 individuals are in the event. The finals are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Mulabegovic graduated from Purdue in 2005. He competed in the Athens Olympics in 2004 where he finished t-29th with a distance of 19.07m (62-7). The former Boilermaker also competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 where he finished t-29 with a throw of 19.35m (63-6).
Former Boilermaker javelin thrower Kara Patterson is competed for the United States. Her competition is just around the corner as the women's javelin qualifications are on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 5 a.m. ET. The finals will be held on Aug. 9. Patterson owns the US record with a distance of 66.67m (218-9) which she set in 2010 at the U.S. Championships.
In both events, 12 individuals will advance from the qualifying rounds into the finals.
