Men's Accepted Entries / Women's Accepted Entries
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The track & field teams have 34 entries in next week's NCAA East Preliminary Round, including 20 by the Big Ten champion women's team. This year's meet is in Lexington, Kentucky, and will run May 25 to 27.
To qualify for the preliminary rounds, individuals must be among the top 48 declared student-athletes in their event, while relay teams must be in the top 24. To advance to the NCAA Championships, individuals and relays must finish in the top 12 at the NCAA Prelims.
Purdue's 34 combined entries are the second most in program history, behind last year's 35, since the regional draws changed from four sites to two in 2010. This is the second time Purdue has had more than 30 entries at the meet, after having a previous high of 29 in 2014.
Devynne Charlton is among the leaders heading into regionals for the 16th ranked Boilermakers. She leads the region in the 100-meter hurdles with a windy time of 12.67 seconds, which won the Big Ten Championship over the weekend. Charlton is also expected to run the lead leg of the 4x100-meter relay team, which also won the conference title.
On the men's side, Big Ten triple jump champion Anaquan Peterson leads the group to the regional meet. He picked up the conference crown with the No. 4 mark in the region.
All four Purdue relay teams advanced to the preliminary round. The men's 4x400m relay did so with the No. 2 time in school history, which earned them bronze medals at Big Tens.
