  • WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's track and field team earned its fourth straight weekly Big Ten honor on Tuesday as senior Brian Kaluf was named conference track athlete of the week. With his first career weekly conference honor he is the seventh athlete on the Purdue men's squad to earn conference recognition this season.

Kaluf posted a pair of career-best times last weekend as he won the 110- and 400-meter hurdles at the Boilermakers' Dave Rankin Invitational. He broke the tape in 14.20 in the 110, bettering his regional qualifying mark, and notched his first regional time of the season in the 400 with a mark of 52.09. He stands third in the conference in both races, while ranking 11th in the NCAA Mideast Region in the 110 and ninth in the region in the 400.

This marks the second straight year Kaluf has earned regional qualification in a pair of events, garnering a bid in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles last season as well. He has been a consistent scorer at the conference level over the past few seasons, taking third in the 60-meter hurdles at this year's indoor championships and fourth last year, grabbing eighth in the 110- and 400-hurdles at the 2007 Outdoor Big Ten Championships and securing seventh in the 110-hurdles in 2006.

Kaluf joins juniors Ben Harpenau and Nolan Petties, sophomore Jonathan Pullum and freshmen Shane Crawford, Josh Hembrough and Chris Thoman on the list of Purdue weekly award winners this year.

The outdoor campaign continues for Kaluf on Friday, racing at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
