Track Completes Signing Class

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams signed 10 recruits during the early stages of the signing period. The nine women and one man will enroll at Purdue this fall.

The 2013 class is filled with speed as six of the nine female newcomers and the lone male are sprinters. Among the other three signees is a distance runner and a thrower. The 10 incoming freshmen hail from five different states and one foreign country. The Bahamas, Texas, and Illinois each send two athletes to Purdue while California Tennessee, Georgia, and Indiana all send one.

The Women

Devynne Charlton - Sprinter/Hurdler - Nassau, Bahamas
-Charlton specializes in the 100m, 200m and the 100m hurdles.
-She has a personal record of 11.60 seconds in the 100m dash, 24.09 seconds in the 200m dash, and 13.76 seconds in the 100m hurdles.
-Devynne represented her native country of the Bahamas in international competition this March.  She became the 2013 Carifta Champion in the 100m making her the fastest 19-and-under in the entire Caribbean region.
-She later coupled with three other Bahamians to win the 4x100m relay, upsetting the favored Jamaican athletes.
-Charlton was a member of the Bahamas National Team for the 2012 World Junior Championships held in Barcelona Spain and the 2011 World Youth Championships in Lille, France.

Carmiesha Cox - Sprinter - Nassau, Bahamas
-Cox specializes in the 100m and 200m dashes.
-She has a personal record of 11.48 seconds in the 100m dash and 23.43 seconds in the 200m dash.
-Cox joined her Bahamian National and future Purdue teammate, Charlton, to complete a 1-2 Bahamian sweep in the 100m dash at the 2013 Carifta Championships.
-She was also a member to the Bahamian 4x100m relay team that captured the gold at the highly acclaimed Carifta games.
-Cox earned international experience as she competed for the Bahamas at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain and the 2011 World Youth Championships in Lille, France.

Savannah Carson - Sprinter/Jumper - Naperville, Ill.
-Carson specializes in the short sprints and the long jump.
-She has personal records of 11.91 seconds and 20 feet, one inch, respectively.
-She is the reigning Illinois High School Association Class 3 State Champion in the long jump.
-She is the 2013 Long Jump Champion of the Indoor Illinois Top Times Championships.

Kiara McIntosh - Middle Distance/Distance Runner - Menifee, Calif.
-McIntosh specializes in events from the 800m to 5k and cross country.
-She has personal records of 2:11.04 in the 800m, 4:58.72 in the mile and 17:45 in the 5k cross country.
-She placed fourth at the 2012 Division 1 California Cross Country Championships.
-She was a California state finalist in the 800m in 2012.

Chelsie Meeks - Throws - Rensselaer, Ind.
-Meeks specializes in the discus.
-She has a PR of 142.5 feet in the event.
-Meeks is ranked as the No. 1 senior in Indiana.
-She finished runner-up at the 2012 Indiana State Championships and fourth at the New Balance Outdoor High School Championships.
-Meeks earned AAU All-American status placing eighth at the AAU National Junior Olympic Championships in 2012.

Shantyra Delaney - Sprinter/Hurdler - Knoxville, Tenn.
-Delaney specializes in the 100m hurdles.
-She has a PR of 14.33 seconds in the 100m hurdles and 8.87 seconds in the 60m hurdles.
-Delaney was placed seventh in the 60m hurdles at the 2013 New Balance Indoor National Championships.
-Delaney finished runner-up in the Tennessee High School Championships and AAU National Championships in the summer of 2012.

Taylor Dunlap - Sprinter - Dallas
-Dunlap specializes in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.
-She has personal-best times of 24.20 seconds in the 200m and 55.20 seconds in the 400m dash.
-She emerged on the scene as a former basketball player and qualified for the highly competitive Texas State Track Championships.

Makayla Earnheart - Sprinter - Dallas
-Earnheart specializes in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes.
-She has personal bests of 24.50 seconds and 54.80 seconds in the 200m and 400m, respectively.
-Earnheart is a member of DeSoto High School's track and field program which is nationally renowned for its sprints and relays.
-She was a member of the 4x100m and 4x200m teams that placed second and seventh at the 2012 Texas State Championships. 

Hope Schmelze - Distances - Warrenville, Ill.
-Schmelze specializes in the 1,600m run.
-She has a personal best of 4:59 in the event.
-Schmelze is one of the top ranked milers in the state of Illinois.

The Men

Obokhare Ikpefan - Sprints/Hurdles/Jumps - Roswell, Ga.
-Ikpefan specializes in 200m and 400m dashes as well as the 400m hurdles and the triple jump.
-He has PRs of 21.65 seconds, 47.91 seconds, 53.21 seconds, and 51 feet, one and a half inches, respectively.
-Ikpefan is ranked 19th in the country for 400m dashers.
