WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams will be in action this weekend at the Jesse Owens Track Classic hosted by the Ohio State University. The Boilermakers will be one of 66 teams competing.
On the men's side, Geoff Davis and Derrick Spight will be up against 18 other competitors in the high jump including seven others from the Big Ten Conference. Byron Ferrell, Mitch Erickson, and Zack Saunders will also be up against a Big Ten heavy field in the pole vault. The trio will face eight conference competitors in the 21-man field. Mario Cosey looks to be one of the top competitors in the 100m and 200m dashes. Andrew Kendrick, Josh Lee, Rob McNair, and Brandon Winters are also scheduled to compete in the 200m.
Kevin Griffith, Mitch Keyser, and Dan Porter represent Purdue in the field of 41 for the 800m run. Griffith currently has the nation's 92nd best time of the outdoor season. Brett Klosterhoff and Dominic DeSantis will run the 5k. Cale Allen has the weekend off after running the second best time in school history last weekend. Winters will be one of the favorites in the 110m hurdles, though Ohio State has five competitors in the race.
For the women, Leah Eber and Nikki Nunn will headline the long jump field. Eber finished second last weekend in her 2012 outdoor debut. Eber will also get her first shot at the triple jump. Kelcey McKinney of Ohio State headlines that field as she has the nation's 30th best mark this season. Terri Anderson will be among the top throwers in the discus. Dani Bunch is also in the field and will vie for the title among 33 competitors. Bunch will be among the best in the hammer throw and shot put as well.
Kaitlyn Brace still has one of the top marks in the Big Ten in the javelin. She will be in a field of 17 on Saturday including teammate Emily Becker. Kelly McCurdy, Jennifer Hall, Dana Payonk and Blair Doney will compete in the field of 36 for the 1500m run. McCurdy is coming off an outstanding weekend as she won the collegiate 5k last week at the Sun Angel Classic. She will get a break from that event this week as Linsey Daluga will run in her place. Ciana Tabb will be among the best in the 100m hurdles. She is in a field of 28 with seven individuals from the Big Ten. Morgan Monroe will vie for the 400m hurdles title. She is one of 15 in the race.
Friday's action is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET in the 27th Jesse Owens Track Classic. Field events will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. while track events are scheduled for noon. Live results can be found at PurdueSports.com.
