WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermaker track and field teams are scheduled to host their first outdoor meet of the season this weekend. Purdue welcomes six programs to Rankin Track and Field for the two-day Mike Poehlein Invite, which begins on Friday.
St. Joseph’s, IUPUI, Wayne State, Marian, Valparaiso and Ball State are scheduled to make the trip to West Lafayette. Friday’s action will consist of the women’s and men’s hammer throws and is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
Several top Boilermakers will have the weekend off to rest after last week California trip. Devynne Charlton, Raheem Mostert, Andrew Kendrick, Matthew McClintock and Aarin Jones are among those getting the weekend off. The meet will serve as the first outdoor competition of the year for a handful of other Boilermakers.
Megan Broecker is scheduled to make her outdoor debut in the javelin, 4x400m relay and the 100m high hurdles. Anna Deufel is slated to run in the women’s 100m and 200m dashes, while Briana Williams will compete in both events plus the long jump. Georgia Williams will also make her outdoor debut while competing in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
On the men’s side, Anaquan Peterson is scheduled to make his debut in the men’s long and triple jumps. Eric Dean will get his first crack and the discus, while Lachlan Brown is scheduled for the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay. Garrett Gray is scheduled to debut in the 400m dash.
The Boilermakers will have a few veterans competing. Dani Bunch, Coy Blair and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi are scheduled to compete in the hammer throw and shot put. Bunch and Blair are also slated for the discus. Kevin Griffith, Eric Harris and Andre’ Peart are others expected to lead the Purdue men on Saturday. On the women’s side, Ciana Tabb is scheduled to compete in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays as well as the 100m hurdles with teammate Cierra Brown. Kari Shoolbraid will have a lighter weekend as she is scheduled to compete in the 1,500m run.
