This is the 10th edition of Purdue Track Tidbits. The weekly update features upcoming news and events, national standings, top performers, school records, and other happenings within the program. These ‘tidbits’ are released each Tuesday of the season.

Nunn Other Than Nikki
-Nikki Nunn jumped a career-best 6.32m (20-9) to win the long jump at the SEC-B1G Challenge over the weekend.
-That jump is tied for the best jump in the NCAA this season.
-Nunn’s mark is the third-best in Purdue outdoor track and field history.

McClintock Takes 20th at World Junior Cross Country Championships
-Matthew McClintock finished 20th in the 8,000-meter race held in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
-The Athens, Maine, native finished in 22:52, the fastest 8k time for an American since 1985.
-McClintock was the top finisher among Americans.
-The freshman was the first finisher from a continent other than Africa, the continent traditionally known to dominate the sport.

Becker Earns B1G Field Athlete of the Week
-Emily Becker was named the Big Ten Women’s Field Athlete of the Week last Wednesday.
-The junior won the heptathlon at the Shamrock Invitational with 4,363 points a week and a half ago.
-The Berlin, Germany, native won two events and finished runner-up in another.
-Becker is the first Purdue woman to win the award since Leah Eber took home the honor on April 18, 2012 for her efforts in the long jump.
-The Big Ten Conference will announce this week’s winners on Wednesday afternoon.

Boilers Among Nation’s Best
-Purdue has 10 individuals with top-25 marks in the country this season including two in the top 20, one in the top 10, and four in the top five with Nunn leading the nation in her event.
-Geoff Davis has the third-best high jump mark. He cleared 2.20m (7-02.50) at the Shamrock Invite.
-Jakob Engel is fifth in the nation in the shot put. He threw a personal best and the fourth-best throw in Purdue history at the Shamrock Invite with a distance of 18.69m (61-04).
-Kelly McCurdy has the fifth-best 5k time in the nation. She finished with a time of 16:39.89 at the Shamrock Invite.
-Coy Blair threw the ninth-best shot put distance in the country last weekend. Blair posted a distance of 18.21m (59-09).
-Kevin Griffith has the nation’s 16th-best 800m run time. Griffith finished in 1:51.04 last weekend.
-Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has the 18th-best shot put distance in the country. He threw 17.68m (58-0.25) at the Shamrock Invite.
-Brandon Winters has the 22nd-fastest 110m hurdles time this season. He ran a 14.17 seconds time at Shamrock Invite. He also ran a 14.13 seconds time at the meet, but it was wind aided.
-Becker’s heptathlon score is 22nd in the country.
-Jordan Roos has the 24th-best shot put distance in the country. He threw 17.37m (57-00) at the Shamrock Invite. Roos is currently splitting his time between spring football and track.

Burton A Hall of Famer
-Lawrence Burton, a two-sport star who also played for the football team, will be inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on April 27.
-Burton was inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.
-The Melfa, Va., native, nicknamed “The Fastest Man on Earth,” tied the world record in the 60m dash and set the world record in the 200-yard dash.
-Burton finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in the 1972 Olympic Games.
-He was a four-time Big Ten Champion and two-time track All-American.
-Burton also earned All-America honors in football and was an All-Big Ten honoree.
-He earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was the football team’s MVP in 1974.
-Burton was the 1975 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner and was a first-round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints in 1975. He played professional football for six years.

Calling All Campers
-The Purdue track and field and cross country teams will hold a summer camp for all boys and girls in sixth through 12th grade.
-The camp will run from June 23-27 and all skill levels are welcome.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered
-The team has now signed 10 incoming freshman, nine women and one man.
-Savannah Carson, Carmiesha Cox, Devynne Charlton, Shantyra Delaney, Taylor Dunlap, Makayla Earnheart, Kiara McIntosh, Chelsie Meeks, and Hope Schmelze join the women’s team.
-Obokhare Ikpefan signed on with the men’s team. 
-The track signing period began last Wednesday and continues to the start of August.
-A full release including statistics, achievements, and more will be available for the entire class once it is completed.

*UPDATE: What’s Up Next - Mike Poehlein Invite CANCELLED
-The Boilermakers were scheduled to host their first outdoor home meet of the season this weekend with the Mike Poehlein Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
-The meet has however been cancelled due to weather and facility conditions from the recent storm.
-The Dave Rankin Outdoor Track and Field was blanketed with about nine inches of snow on Sunday evening. The weather does not appear to be improving enough to melt the snow and bring the facilities to the conditions needed to host the meet.

Alumni News
-All track and field and cross alumni are invited to the 2013 reunion. 
-The reunion will be over the weekend of April 19th and 20th, the same weekend as the team hosts the Dave Rankin Outdoor Track and Field Invite.
