WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boilermakers open the outdoor season Friday at the UTSA Invitational. Purdue will compete in the two-day meet against six other schools, including Alabama, Texas, Texas Tech and UTSA. Friday’s action is set to begin at 2 p.m. ET at UTSA’s Park West Athletics Complex with the women’s hammer throw and men’s shot put.
Redshirt seniors Devynne Charlton and Savannah Carson are set to make their 2018 debuts for the women’s side. Neither had indoor eligibility remaining, while both have one outdoor season left. Junior Janae’ Moffitt will also make her season debut after redshirting the indoor season. Sophomore Sekayi Bracey will compete for the first time since Jan. 19 at Clemson. She missed the remainder of the indoor season with injury. All four Boilermakers scored in at least one event at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships last year and combined for 53 points in Purdue’s win at that meet.
Two Boilermakers who hold Park West Athletics Complex records will also compete. Senior Symone Black holds the 400-meter hurdles track record, while senior Eric Blackman is tied for the facility record in the high jump. Both performances came at the same meet a year ago.
