WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's track and field teams are set to host their final indoor home meet of the season on Saturday, welcoming six teams to Lambert Fieldhouse for the 2009 Boilermaker Invitational. Competition is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with the field events, while track events are set to commence at 1 p.m.
The Boilermakers will host Valparaiso University, IUPUI, Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, Millikan University, Marian College and Goshen College on Saturday, marking the Boilermakers' final meet before the 2009 Big Ten Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28. The Old Gold and Black have several athletes ranked among the conference's best on both the men's and women's sides, including nine NCAA provisional qualifiers.
Six Purdue men have surpassed the NCAA provisional standard in their respective events, including sophomore Josh Hembrough who holds the fastest time in the Big Ten and the 10th quickest time in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.80 seconds. Senior Ben Harpenau has the third-best mark in the conference in the 35-pound weight throw, hurling it a career-best 20.04 meters (65-09.00), while sophomore Shane Crawford is third in the Big Ten in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.73 seconds. Senior Ben Pax and junior Eric Sparks are tied for the fourth-highest clearance in the Big Ten in the pole vault, marking the NCAA provisional standard of 5.20 meters (17-00.75), and junior Adetayo Adesanya has equaled the provisional height in the high jump at 2.14 meters (7-00.25), good for fourth in the conference. Fellow junior Lance Moe is right behind Adesanya, tied for fifth in the Big Ten with a mark of 2.07 meters (6-09.50). The Boilermakers also own the fourth-best distance medley relay time in the conference at 9:53.41, and are tied for the sixth-fastest 4x400-meter relay in the Big Ten with Wisconsin at 3:14.29.
On the women's side, seniors Ranay Harvey and Mallory Peck and junior Brianna Neumann have all met the NCAA provisional standards. Harvey has a season- and career-best time of 8.43 in the 60-meter hurdles, good for seventh in the conference, while Peck and Neumann have both qualified in the pole vault. Peck has cleared a season best of 4.00 meters (13-01.50), good for third in the conference, while Neumann is right behind at 3.95 meters (12-11.50), sitting tied for fourth in the Big Ten. Junior Ashlee Lengacher is just off the national standard in the 800-meter run with a top time of 2:09.33, and ranks second in the Big Ten in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:32.42, while sophomore Emily Breslin is tied for fourth in the conference in the high jump with a clearance of 1.73 meters (5-08.00). Junior Nkeiru Ugwoaba boasts the Big Ten's third best triple jump mark, leaping 12.45 meters (40-10.25) at the Meyo Invitational. She and classmate Christina Madison share the No. 8 long jump mark in the conference at 5.91 meters (19-04.75).

Terri Anderson on the women's side. Moe will make his final tune ups in the 60-meter dash, pole vault and shot put in preparation for the heptathlon at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, while Hardcastle is set for a big throw in the shot put, hoping to improve his season best mark of 17.21 meters (65-09.00). Ugwoaba looks to lock in on the NCAA provisional standard of 12.65 meters (41-06.00), while Stalzer hopes to keep pace with Lengacher and climb the conference rankings in the 600-meter run. Turnbull and Stover have their sights set on the NCAA provisional standard of 3.95 meters (12-11.50) in the pole vault, and Anderson looks for improvement on her season-best mark of 13.92 meters (45-08.00) in the shot put to climb up from 10th in the conference standings.
