Throwers Face Tall Task at Findlay Elite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams will travel their top throwers to the Findlay Elite Invitational on Friday. The Boilermakers are scheduled to go up against the several of the top throwers, collegiate and professional, in the country.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m. ET with the women's elite shot put. Eleven of the throwers in the field are in the top 20 in their respective divisions, while Dani Bunch has the No. 2 throw in division I this year. Nia Henderson, a graduate of Kent State, is the top thrower in the field, as she is a USA Olympic Qualifier. Bunch is also scheduled to compete in the weight throw at 6 p.m. The Purdue senior has the top throw among collegians this year and is ranked third in the country overall. Jackie Leppelmeier of Kent State is the second-best thrower in the event, as she has the 13th-best mark in division I. The top two division II throwers are also in the field.

On the men's side, Purdue will travel Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Coy Blair and Caleb Fricke. Six of the top 25 ranked throwers in the United States are slated to compete in the shot put, including Enekwech, which is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Derrick Vicars, a former two-time Division II National Champion from Findlay, highlights the field, as he has a personal record of 20.12m (66-00.25). Bobby Grace is the top collegian in the event with a division I ranking of No. 8. Blair and Enekwechi are in the event for Purdue.

The men's elite weight throw is slated for 7:45 p.m. with Purdue's Enekwechi and Blair in the field. Enekwechi is the second-ranked thrower in the group, behind only A.G. Kruger, a three-time Olympian and former Division II National Champion. Kruger, who now throws for Nike, has a PR of 24.68m (80-11.75). Enekwechi's PR is 23.31m (76-05.75) and that mark is the best in the world this year. Four throwers in the field have PRs of 22m or better.

Caleb Fricke is in the men's weight throw which is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
