GREENSBORO, N.C. - Vanessa McLeod broke her own school record in the women's 800m run and Andre' Peart won his heat of the 400m hurdles on Thursday. Both advance to the national quarterfinals on Friday as did Kevin Griffith in the 800m run.

McLeod was in the third heat of the 800m run. She got out to a quick start and, with Brigitte Mania of Connecticut, broke away from the pack. Both eventually hung on to the top two spots including McLeod who turned in a second-place time in the heat of 2:06.08. That time broke her own school record by 0.28 second. McLeod finished with the 14th-fastest time in the event and qualified for the quarterfinals as she was in the top three in her heat. McLeod will compete for a trip to Eugene, Ore., and the National Championships on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.

Peart was in the first heat of the 400m hurdles. The junior came out of lane four and ran a complete race on his way to winning the heat with a time of 51.24 seconds. That time was the third fastest in the overall event and advanced him to Friday's quarterfinals on Friday at 7:45 p.m.

Here's a look at how the rest of Purdue's Thursday competitors did in chronological order of events.

Caleb Reiff - Discus
Reiff fouled off his first two attempts and needed to get a mark with his third. The freshman put that attempt between the lines and recorded a mark of 43.25m (141-10) to finish 43rd in the region. He did not advance.

Kaite Hoevet - 1,500m
Hoevet ran a time of 4:26.45 in the 1,500m run. That time was just a couple seconds off her personal best and was 31st overall. Despite the finish, Hoevet was not far off from qualifying for the quarterfinals as an identical time qualified as well as a time a second slower, due the different paces in each heat.

Nikki Nunn - Long Jump
Nunn had a couple near misses on his first and third attempts in the long jump which resulted in fouls. Her second attempt measured 5.76m (18-10.75) which finished 35th overall in the region. She did not advance to the finals in Eugene, Ore.

Kevin Griffith - 800m
Griffith finished with the 20th overall time in the 800m run after posting a 1:50.17. That time is just .09 second off his season best. Griffith earned a spot in the Friday's quarterfinal as one of five at large selections. He will be in the first heat on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Cale Allen - 10,000m
Allen finished 25th overall with a time of 30:22.97 in the pouring rain. Allen was just over 20 seconds behind qualifying to the NCAA Championships. The senior wrapped up his career with his name on multiple top-five program lists.
