DES MOINES, Iowa - The Purdue track and field team wrapped up its first day of the Drake Relays on Thursday. Six Boilermakers competed in the distance events that were held including three men and three women.
Cale Allen finished fifth in the men's 5,000-meter run. The senior finished in 14:16.18 which was less than four seconds behind the winning time. That time is just over 12 seconds behind his personal best which is the second-fastest 5k time in Purdue history. He ran that time last season. Caleb Kerr also competed in that race. He finished 20th with a time of 14:44.40. That time is just over five seconds behind his outdoor best.
Neal Omar wrapped up the men's action for Purdue on its first day. He finished sixth in the 800m unseeded run. Omar posted a time of 1:52.95 which is just 0.45 second behind his outdoor best.
Kelly McCurdy ran in the women's 5k on Thursday. She finished 13th in the event with a time of 17:02.61. That time was just over 23 seconds behind her best outdoor time in the event. Linsey Daluga and Autumn Beachy competed in the women's 10k. Daluga took 13th in the event with a time of 36:10.07 which Beachy finished 21st with a time of 36:50.24. The race was the first time that either woman had run the 10k while at Purdue.
