Boilermakers Take Top Spot In Men's, Women's Hammer

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The first day of the Dave Rankin Invitational wrapped up at Purdue University on Friday and Purdue student-athletes came out on top on both the men’s and women’s side.

In the men’s event, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi was the top finisher. The Purdue freshman, competing unattached, threw a personal best 59.51m (195-03) with his fifth overall throw. That mark was enough to win by more than 16.5 feet. Cal Luby finished third in the event. The Boilermaker threw 54.30 (178-02) which was six inches short of second place. Jakob Engel finished fourth with a mark of 52.86m (173-05). That distance is .05m further than his seeded mark.

On the women’s side, Dani Bunch was the top finisher in the hammer throw. The sophomore threw 53.91m (176-10). Teammate Emily Leckenby wasn’t far behind as she finished second. Leckenby threw 53.13m (174-04). That mark is a best for her. Breann Fife made it a clean sweep for the Boilermakers as she took third. The senior threw 48.48m (159-01).

The Dave Rankin Invitational will continue on Saturday at 11 a.m. The first events will be the javelin and the 10,000m run. Live results can be found at PurdueSports.com.
